Beyond The Gown: Jackets & Boleros

You have the dress, do you need a jacket? Layers are sometimes complicated things to think about, but it is important to consider a jacket or a bolero for your event early in the game, so you aren’t stuck trying to find a colour match right before your event. Mothers of the bride and groom and bridesmaids will often opt to wear a jacket or bolero to the wedding as a means to keep a little warmer and cover up a little arm if you are wearing a sleeveless gown. Jackets and boleros are often perfect for a church wedding if the atmosphere is a little more conservative, and also for a garden wedding if the air is still crisp.

There are a number of factors to consider when shopping for a jacket and bolero including choosing a colour which will either match or contrast against the colour or patterns of your dress. Another thing to think about is which kind of jacket, wrap or bolero suits the occasion as there will always be a plethora of options to choose from. Finally, it is important to consider your true personal style, select a jacket or bolero that will suit you and your personality.

Cover Ups & Colours

The first thing to consider when shopping for a jacket or bolero is what colours will match my dress? A bolero should complement the colour of the dress you are wearing, but it does not have to be an exact colour match. For example, if you have a pink floral print dress you may opt for a sage green wrap to create an ultra-feminine and pretty colour contrast – green and pink go together hand in hand as they are two opposites that attract.

Furs, Satins & Chiffons

Choosing which kind of jacket and textile is up there when it comes to importance. Will you be attending a winter wedding? A fur jacket would look chic. Or you might be off to a garden wedding in the afternoon sun – if so a lightweight chiffon wrap is perfect when you are after a bit of extra arm coverage in the warmer seasons. Ensure that you choose a bolero or jacket that fits the brief of the dress code, and that is suitable for the weather and the location of the event.

Comfort & Personal Style

It is always integral that you feel comfortable and confident in any style that you wear. Be mindful of this when shopping for a jacket and bolero to suit your look, although it is important to think about colour and textile, it is as equally important to recognise that it must make you look and feel good so you can shine at your next event.
