Held in a beloved home town and with local vendors decorating the day, Holly and Lachlan’s wedding was an occasion full of joy and love. Although Holly and Lachlan had originally planned on a destination wedding, they changed their minds at the last minute to allow for their grandparents to be in attendance. Which turned out perfectly as Holly had always dreamed of celebrating her wedding day at her family home, in her hometown. A scene which was fitting as Holly and Lachlan did the debutante ball together when they were younger, although they didn’t get together until nine years later. After their one year anniversary together as a couple they found out that they were pregnant, and just before Holly celebrated her baby shower, Lachlan popped the question and the couple was engaged. With this exciting proposal came choosing a date for the wedding, which Holly decided with her mum, and off they went planning. The wedding was planned in just under 12 weeks, and Holly told us that although her husband was not overly keen on a big party, Holly knew she wanted a celebration.
Holly and Lachlan ended up having a small gathering of 20 people, which included family, for the wedding ceremony at her family farm. Their ceremony was held before dusk, in the late afternoon at 3pm, the couple was wedded beside the dam bank on the farm. Holly held a beautiful brightly coloured bouquet filled with roses and dahlias, made by local florist, Arden Blooms, who also created the groom’s boutonnière. Afterwards, Holly and Lachlan had their wedding photos taken against the beautiful farm backdrop, a perfect autumnal setting, before heading back to Holly’s parents’ house for the ultimate surprise. At Holly’s parents’ house the couple celebrated with more of their friends and family, 120 guests, which initially started out as engagement party before they surprised everyone and turned the evening into their wedding reception. Speeches were made and toasts were shared throughout the evening. Holly told us that “during the speeches Lachlan's brother made the comment that I had been waiting since I was about 12 or 13 years old to marry Lachlan. Which is true. I have had the biggest crush on him since we started high school all those years ago. So, to say I fell in love with my high school crush and got to marry him, I would say I am pretty lucky. One of the best days of my life.”
Holly found her wedding dress in just a few short weeks, but it wasn’t something she stumbled across easily, she said that “nothing I tried on at the shops ever felt just right.” It wasn’t until both her mum and her mother in law happened to send her the same picture of the same dress when Holly “knew this was the dress for me.” The dress was our Ariella Gown, Holly said that “the rouching on the front, and the crepe to add an elegant feel and a warmer feel for the cooler months. I couldn’t have found a dress that suited me better.” Although Holly was on a time crunch, and with her size completely sold out she opted for a larger size that could be altered to fit her perfectly. Holly’s mother in law had experience in dress making and was able to alter the style and change the hem to fit Holly.
Several meaningful additions were also made to Holly’s wedding dress by her talented mother in law. Holly had always wanted to include some element of her mum’s wedding dress as part of hers, and this was achieved. A skirt was created from Holly’s mum’s dress and was attached, a cape feature was added, and lace was made into a belt along with some Swarovski beads to make it shine. Holly’s wedding dress ended up having a detachable skirt also so that later on in the night she could remove it and have the perfect after party dress for dancing. Holly’s headpiece was created partly from her mum’s wedding day headpiece. Holly told us that “having parts of my mum's dress was so sentimental to have it included. and knowing i have this as a memory is such a special moment i got to have with my mum as her only daughter. This will always carry a special place in my heart. Even My dad thought it was great being able to use part of mum's dress on my special wedding day.”
