Pink marked an entire generation in the mid-2000s when on the big screen, actresses like Alicia Silverstone and Reese Witherspoon gave life to characters who made pink almost a way of life. Twenty years later, the colour revives, marking a strong presence on and off the international catwalks, in street style, and in your Instagram feed, and it is certainly a colour you can't get out of your head. Check out five reasons to believe that pink is the new black.
1) From the big screens to the streets
In 1952, the movie "Moulin Rouge" was released, and the entire public was delighted with the actress Zsa Zsa Gabor dressed in a look produced by the renowned designer Elsa Schiaparelli. After the resounding success, in 1953, Marilyn Monroe appeared stunning in the film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". In 2001, the cinema again gained a character who wore pink clothes. In "Legally Blonde", actress Reese Witherspoon played Elle Woods, an iconic character who wore pink outfits and accessories.
If you've been following social media, you've noticed that the word "Barbiecore" and Hot Pink colour has recently become one of the most talked about themes on the internet because of the release of the new "Barbie" movie. After behind-the-scenes images of the new Barbie live-action went viral on social media, the supersaturated tones and structured designs used by Margot Robbie conquered the hearts of fashionistas once and for all.
2) The accurate check-in at gala events.
From pastel to more vibrant, from the Oscar to MET Gala, pink has been seen on red carpets in elaborate and glamorous outfits. The colour puts the desire for femininity and delicacy to the test, which goes well on any occasion. Nicole Peltz and Glenn Close chose the colour for the MET Gala 2022, Simone Ashley wore it at the BAFTA Awards, and Zendaya was iconic at the Valentino fall/winter 2022 show.

3) It is the designers' favourite
Valentino bet on pink in his last two collections, Versace, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent, entered the same flow that put the tone in the spotlight of their shows and, consequently, on the fashion radar. In the fashion show of the Autumn/Winter collection of the Italian brand Valentino, which took place in March 2022 at Paris Fashion Week, pink was the protagonist. From more casual pieces, such as low-cut dresses, to the most sophisticated, such as overcoats, they appeared in the intense pink tone. More than the models on display, the colour called Pink Valentino PP, which was created exclusively with Pantone, was the highlight of the night.

4) It is the colour of positivity and escapism.
WGSN - the leading trend research portal - in partnership with Coloro, announced that Orchid Flower (vibrant pink) was the colour of the year 2022 - and the expectation is that it will remain up until 2023. According to the statement, this more saturated magenta tone is intense and energizing and has the quality to stand out in both "real" and "digital" life.
This aesthetic accompanies the post-pandemic period and is directly related to dopamine dressing, which is related to the neurotransmitter dopamine, which causes a feeling of happiness and pleasure when released. That is, wearing it can be decisive in improving mood.
5) It goes through all styles.
Gone are the days when pink was associated with a certain feminine fragility. Today, the pink tone has a hint of strength and energy and is also related to feelings of freedom and desire. Moreover, pink is a democratic shade that can easily compose a more cool oversized production like a full-length jumpsuit and serve with the same elegance of a more formal proposal with a touch of modernity, like a cocktail dress with a large bowtie on the shoulder. So you shall play with the trend!
