Get The Look: The Met Gala Edition

What Is The Met Gala?

The Met Gala is an annual black tie gala held at New York's Metropolitan Museum, aka the Met. The Met Gala is held as a means to raise funds for the Met Museum's Art's Costume Institute. Coined as the Oscars of the fashion world, the Met Gala is the celebrity party of the year, and there is no better party than a themed party (even though some may not think so). Each year, months ahead of when the Met Gala occurs, a theme is announced to the world. It can often be quite ambiguous or conceptual, forcing viewers (and the attendees, their stylists and the like) to really think about their look.

When Is The Met Gala?

The Met Gala is held on the first Monday of May, always. Which is pretty easy to remember, and a lot of people call it Met Monday. The 2026 Met Gala falls on the 5th of May. Get your popcorn ready as you watch the stars walk the coveted Met steps (IYKYK). Where to watch the Met Gala? You can watch across social media streaming.

What Is The Met Gala 2026 Theme?

The Met Gala 2026 theme and official dress code is Fashion is Art. Which aligns with the Met Museums corresponding exhibition, Costume Art, as it always does. The theme is said to be focused on how fashion inplays with the human body across history, pairing garments with art. As the theme is open to interpretation, some designers will take a modern approach while others may interpret it more literally. Nevertheless, looks will go beyond traditional red carpet dressing, focusing on self expression.

Anok Yai

Accompanied by gold makeup and tears falling from her face, Yai's look was truely an artwork. A black strapless dress is perfect for red carpet and formal black tie events.

Gwendoline Christie

Gwendoline Christie's Met Gala look was perfect for the fashion is art dress code. MGwendoline Christie wore a melot off the shoulder gown pair with a remarkable feather headpeice, her gown was desired by her partner Giles Deacon. This look is perfect for a black tie dress code, be inspired to wear a off the shoulder gown to your next occasion.

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore wore a black one shoulder gown by Bottega Veneta designed by her long time friend, Tom Ford. Moore's gown was inspired by the Madame X artwork, featuring a silk organza stole. This outfit was the perfect choice for a red carpet or formal occasion.
